Ballymac-Glanageenty Ramblers is a hill-walking club which was formed in September 2014, having been granted aspirant club status by Mountaineering Ireland. We are, as a consequence, under Mountaineering Ireland governance.
Once granted aspirant club status, we were then free to accept membership applications. We are pleased to say that our membership numbers have very recently gone over the fifty mark. A very positive endorsement from the local community for a club that is now barely four months old.
The club is essentially an amalgamation of three groups in the Ballymacelligott – Kielduff area. Those groups consisted of a walking / rambling group, a technical rock-climbing group, and the now well renowned Glanageenty Walkway facility which John Lenihan has put so much work into to make it the wonderful walking and leisure trail it is today.
It was felt by the leaders of these groups that the formation of a club which would embrace the needs and aspirations of all three elements was probably the best way forward. This is particularly important where funding applications are concerned as it means one club can apply on behalf of all, thus simplifying administration and reducing paper work.
We see ourselves very much as a community and family oriented club. In particular we are keen to see families and children enjoy the beauty of our natural environment both here in Kerry and further afield. We truly hope you enjoy what we have to offer and would welcome your suggestions.
After all, we are a community focused club.
